WCO briefs Gambian delegation to WHA67th
Banjul, 15 May 2014 -- The WHO Country Office (WCO), on Monday 12 May, briefed the Gambian delegation to the 67th World Health Assembly. In welcoming the delegation to the WCO, Dr. Charles Sagoe-Moses, WHO Country Representative, thanked the Honorable Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Alhaji Omar Sey, and his team for finding time to attend such an important meeting.
He said that such a briefing is a responsibility for the WCO and it is meant to prepare delegates for and enhance their participation in the deliberations of the Assembly.
In return, the Hon. Minister thanked the WCO for being very supportive and always responsive to needs of his Ministry.
He also appreciated the efforts of WCO staff in preparing the technical briefs for such meetings in the past, which, according to him, had always been very useful to the delegation. “We appreciate this briefing because it prepares us very well to participate in the Assembly” Hon. Minister reiterated.
During the three-hour meeting, Dr. Sagoe-Moses, supported by the Programme Officers, explained the rationale, procedure and protocols of WHA as the delegates were taken through the agenda items of this year’s Assembly.
WCO also prepared and shared draft technical briefs/statements to facilitate and enhance participation of the delegates in this important global health forum.
The Gambian delegation, which is headed by the Hon. Minister, comprises the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, Dr. Makie Taal, the Director of Health Services, Dr. Momodou Lamin Waggeh and the Programme Manager for the Expanded Programme on Immunization, Mr. Dawda Sowe.
